If you don't see a link to what you are looking for, you can use this search box to find specific references. This is a new facility, please let me know via feedback how useful it is, and if I need to make any modifications.

search engine by freefind

Tips on searching: This is just a simple word search, it can't answer queries.
When looking for a particular item or phrase, try to get as close to the official wording as possible; there are no pins, traps, or tee boxes here.
Remember that this site is mainly for the Rules; there is very little concerning handicaps, variations of games, etc. If you are looking for answers to rules queries, or general golf history, it's better to e-mail me.

This page has links to all the other pages on the site on the left and right. If you find any of these links not working (an 'error page'), it is almost certainly because the target page is still under construction.

The contents of the topics pages are not meant to be comprehensive; they contain pointers to assist you in your own research, plus any trivia of interest that I have come across. As I learn more, they will be added to, or altered accordingly. If you find any statements that you consider inaccurate, or if you have any knowledge to add, please let me know.

When reading about the development of a particular topic, remember any rules introduced or changes effected before 1899 may have had widespread acceptance, but they were not necessarily universal.

There is a lot of information still to come, so keep checking back.

Thanks
